Lake Trasimeno is the largest lake in central Italy and one of the warmest and most accessible for swimming. The Lido di Tuoro, on the lakefront below the village, has a small sandy beach with pedalos and rowboat hire in summer. The lake is shallow enough that you can wade far from shore in warm water — unusual for an Italian lake — and the surrounding hills of Umbria and Tuscany provide an excellent view in all directions.
The water quality is generally good, and the lake supports extensive fishing as well as a pleasant shoreside walk from the Lido toward Passignano sul Trasimeno to the east. Sunsets over the lake from the western shore are reliably spectacular, with the Tuscan hills in silhouette behind the low sun. A few bars and ice cream stalls operate at the Lido in summer; outside July and August the beach is pleasantly quiet.
