Chiesa di Santa Lucia

The parish church of Santa Lucia sits in the centre of Vodo — a tall hipped-roof building with a free-standing bell tower, rebuilt in the eighteenth century on the site of an earlier medieval church. The roof is the local copper-green of oxidised tin sheet, common in this part of the Cadore. The interior is plain but contains a small collection of devotional paintings and the customary alpine ex-voto offerings.

The church itself is unremarkable architecturally, but the small graveyard beside it gives a sense of the village's history: many of the gravestones carry the surnames of the gelato-emigrant families who left Vodo for the cities of central Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and returned to be buried at home.
