Telšiai Cathedral

Telšiai Cathedral stands on one of the town's central hills, beside the former Bernardine monastery and seminary buildings. The church is not grand in the Vilnius sense, but its raised position, twin-level interior, and diocesan history make it one of the defining places in town.

Come for the setting as much as the architecture. From the cathedral area you can read Telšiai's shape: the old streets falling toward Lake Mastis, the seminary complex around the church, and the compact centre below.

A story
Telšiai became the seat of a Roman Catholic diocese in 1926, and the cathedral hill still feels like the town's institutional heart. The first bishop, Justinas Staugaitis, was also one of the signatories of Lithuania's 1918 Act of Independence.
