Kirchberg is the modern plateau east of the old town, reached across the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge (the 'red bridge'). It is where Luxembourg houses its EU institutions — the European Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors, the Secretariat of the European Parliament — alongside banks, the Philharmonie, the Mudam, and the d'Coque sports centre.
Architecturally it is a different city: glass towers, axial boulevards, lawn between buildings. The 1990s buildings are mostly forgettable, but Pei's Mudam, Portzamparc's Philharmonie, and Perrault's Court of Justice towers are first-rate. The tram from the centre runs the length of the plateau and makes the visit easy.
