Galichnik is a summer destination. The mountain altitude keeps it cool even in July and August when the Macedonian lowlands swelter. The village is essentially closed in winter — deep snow, no services, and most houses locked.
The Galichnik Wedding Festival, held the weekend nearest to 12 July, is the single best reason to visit. Book accommodation in the wider Mavrovo area well in advance for this weekend, as it draws crowds from across Macedonia and beyond. Outside festival time, from June through September, you can walk the village lanes, visit the church, and make the short drive to Saint Jovan Bigorski Monastery in peace.
