Stone Town of Kuklica

Field of natural stone pillars northwest of Kratovo, shaped by volcanic erosion.

The Stone Town of Kuklica is a small field of natural pillars near the village of Kuklica, northwest of Kratovo. The shapes come from erosion of volcanic rock, though local stories prefer weddings, curses, and people turned to stone.

It is not a long visit, but it is memorable and pairs well with Kratovo's crater setting. Go in softer light if you can; midday makes the pale earth and stones look flat.
