Kosturnica, the Veles memorial ossuary, is the city's most powerful modern landmark. Its sculptural concrete form sits above town and looks across the Vardar valley, combining Yugoslav memorial architecture with a very local story of wartime loss.
Go for the building, the view, and the atmosphere. Even if you are not usually drawn to war memorials, this one has enough architectural confidence to justify the climb.
