Golden Bay

Golden Bay (Ir-Ramla tal-Mixquqa) is the largest sandy beach on Malta's west coast, a few kilometres south of Mellieha. The sand is a slightly redder gold than Mellieha Bay, the bay faces west — so it is the right place for sunsets — and the cliffs around it are part of Majjistral Park.

It can be windy here in winter; swimming is best in summer when the prevailing breeze drops. There is good cliff-top walking south along Majjistral towards Ghajn Tuffieha, the smaller and even prettier neighbour bay. A few cafes and restaurants line the back of the beach.
