From the upper levels of the Tipova complex, the cliffs drop almost a hundred metres to the Nistru (Dniester) River below. The view across the river floodplain — willow and poplar forests, oxbow lakes, and the distant hills of Transnistria on the far bank — is one of the finest panoramas in Moldova. The light is best in the late afternoon, when it falls directly onto the cliff face and catches the curve of the river.
The viewpoint is accessed via a path that runs along the cliff edge between the different levels of the monastery. The path is narrow in places and the cliff is unguarded — be careful if you have children or if the ground is wet. The spring water that seeps from the limestone at several points along the path is cold and clean, channelled by the monks into small stone troughs.
