The Muurhuizen (wall houses) line the outer ring of canals around the old city — grand mansions and former monasteries built directly into and on top of the medieval city wall. Walking along here is one of the nicest things you can do in Amersfoort: the houses are colourful, the gardens dip down to the water, and the whole scene is remarkably quiet for a city of 150,000 people.
