De Hoop is a working gristmill on the southern edge of Hellevoetsluis, one of the few remaining traditional windmills in this part of South Holland. The mill dates from the 19th century and has been restored to working order. On days when the wind is right, the sails turn and the millstones grind — and you can usually buy flour ground on site.
The windmill is open on select days (typically weekends and national mill day in May) and can be climbed to see the machinery and get views over the flat Voorne-Putten landscape. Even when closed, the exterior is photogenic and worth the short detour from the historic harbour area.
