A bistro inside the old print-room of the Rapenburg, Het Prentenkabinet serves a Mediterranean-leaning menu in a high-ceilinged 17th-century room hung with engravings. It's particularly good for lunch on a wet afternoon, when the windows look out onto the canal and the wood-panelled walls feel suitably cocooning.
The kitchen pays attention. Lamb stew, slow-braised short ribs, simple grilled fish — the kind of cooking that doesn't try too hard but is impeccably done. Reservations recommended for dinner.
