Museum Warkums Erfskip

Museum Warkums Erfskip (Frisian for "Workum's Heritage") occupies two historic buildings on the market square: the Waag (weigh house, built in 1649) and the former town hall opposite. Together they hold the local history collection of the archaeological society that has been gathering objects from Workum and the surrounding area since 1951.

The collection covers the full sweep of Workum's history as a trading town on the former Zuiderzee — glassware, ceramics, tools, clothing, and everyday objects from the 17th century through the 20th. Since 2021, the former town hall has added a section on Workum during the Second World War, with materials from the resistance period in Friesland. The museum is small and unpretentious, and gives useful context for the town's buildings and the stories attached to them.
