Raipas is a hill above Alta with a marker from the Struve Geodetic Arc, the nineteenth-century survey chain that helped measure the size and shape of the Earth. That sounds abstract until you stand on the ridge and see why surveyors wanted this open line of sight.
The walk is short by northern Norwegian standards, but it gives fine views over Alta and the surrounding landscape. It is a good low-key outing for travellers who like their viewpoints with a bit of scientific history attached.
