Tromøya

Tromøya is the largest island in southern Norway, connected to Arendal by the Tromøy Bridge. Despite its size, it has a remarkably rural character — mostly forest, farmland, and rocky coastline, with a population of around 7,000 spread across several small communities.

The island's west coast, facing Arendal, has sandy beaches that are popular in summer. The east coast is wilder and more exposed, with views out to the open Skagerrak. The Aust-Agder Museum has an open-air section on Tromøya at Hisøy, with traditional farm buildings from the region. Cycling around the island on a clear day gives some of the best coastal views in this part of Norway.
