Sea Fishing and Boat Trips

The waters around Florø are exceptionally productive. Cod, coalfish, and mackerel are common catches from small boats, and the outer skerries and island channels hold some of the best sea fishing on the Norwegian coast. You don't need to be a serious angler — half-day trips departing from the harbour cater to beginners and experienced fishers alike, and equipment is usually provided. If you catch something, the guides will often help you cook it.

Boat trips that are not strictly about fishing also run from the harbour in summer, heading out to the lighthouse islands and to the edge of the open Atlantic. The scenery on a clear day — sea stacks, bird cliffs, and the vast blue-grey sweep of the North Sea — is the real draw. In winter these trips are less frequent, but the storms rolling in from the Atlantic give the coast a drama that summer visitors don't get to see.
