Restaurant Havn

Restaurant Havn (the name means "Harbour") is one of Hammerfest's better-regarded dinner restaurants, occupying a position on the waterfront where the fishing boats tie up. The menu is anchored in the Arctic larder: king crab, reindeer, grouse, and Arctic char appear in various preparations depending on the season. The king crab starter — a claw, cracked at the table, with brown butter and dill — is excellent and worth ordering even if you have been on a crab safari earlier in the day.

The setting is appropriately atmospheric — windows looking out over the harbour, dark wood interior, the particular quiet of an Arctic evening outside. Service is friendly and unhurried. Hammerfest restaurant prices are Norwegian expensive, but Havn is honest value for what it offers. Book ahead in summer.
