Dokken Museum sits on Hasseløy, close enough to the centre to reach on foot but far enough to feel like a small harbour-world of its own. The preserved buildings and exhibits explain Haugesund's herring years, when fishing, salting, shipping, and trade shaped the town's fortunes.
It is a modest open-air museum, open mainly in the warmer season, but it adds something important to Haugesund. Avaldsnes tells the saga-age story; Dokken brings the town back to boats, work, wooden houses, and the smell of the sea.
