Heddal is a short drive west of Notodden in Telemark, about 150 km southwest of Oslo. The simplest approach is by car along the E134, which passes within a few hundred metres of the church. Free parking at the ticket office.
By public transport, take the Oslo–Bergen train to Kongsberg, change for a regional bus to Notodden, and then a local bus or taxi to Heddal — about three hours all told. Most visitors come on a day trip from Oslo or as a stop on the longer drive from Oslo to the western fjords.
