A short walk from the Stave Church, the Heddal Open Air Museum (Heddal bygdetun) is a small cluster of traditional Telemark farm buildings relocated from the surrounding valleys and reassembled here. The collection includes log barns and storehouses, a smithy, and the Ramberg farmhouse with painted interiors in the rose-painting (rosemaling) tradition that Telemark is famous for.
It is the kind of compact, peaceful folk museum that gives you a sense of how rural Norway looked and worked before the 20th century. Allow an hour. Open in summer only; combined ticket with the Stave Church.
