Berg-Kragerø Museum

The Berg-Kragerø Museum is the local history and art museum for the Kragerø area, housed in a 19th-century merchant villa a short walk from the harbour. The collection focuses on the town's seafaring and shipping history — Kragerø was once an important timber exporting port and the exhibition tells that story through ship models, navigation instruments, and portraits of local captains and merchants.

The museum also covers the art history of the region, including the well-documented connection to Edvard Munch, who spent two formative summers here in 1909–10. A section of the museum is dedicated to his time in Kragerø and the paintings he produced here, with reproductions and contextual material. The museum is small but well-curated — manageable in an hour — and the house itself is worth visiting for its period interiors.
