Kaviarfabrikken

One of Norway's more unexpected contemporary art venues, the Kaviarfabrikken (Caviar Factory) occupies a converted fish-processing building on the harbour. The space hosts exhibitions of contemporary and modern art, typically with a rotating program of Norwegian and international artists. The building itself — industrial, utilitarian, converted with care — is part of the attraction.

The gallery is open seasonally and the program varies, so check what's on before making it a centrepiece of your visit. But even a mediocre show is worth it for the building and the conversation it creates between industrial heritage and contemporary work. It's a good example of what makes Henningsvær unusual among Norwegian fishing villages: the community has genuinely engaged with art and culture rather than just tourism infrastructure.
