Rock Climbing

Henningsvær has become one of the premier rock climbing destinations in northern Europe, with routes on the surrounding granite walls that range from beginner-friendly slabs to serious multi-pitch climbs. The rock quality is excellent, the scenery is extraordinary, and the combination of sea air and mountain exposure is something climbers seek out specifically.

Several local guiding outfits run courses and lead trips for visitors. Even if you've never climbed before, a half-day introduction on the lower walls gives you a different perspective on the landscape — literally. The cliffs above the village offer routes with the Vestfjord spread out below you and the Lofoten peaks rising in every direction. The season runs roughly from April to October, with late summer offering the best weather.
