Henningsvær Church

The white wooden church on Heimøya island is a modest but striking building that fits its surroundings precisely — white walls, simple lines, the sea pressing in close. There has been a chapel here since 1852, when a local landowner donated the land; the current structure dates from 1974, designed by architect Odd Storm.

Inside, the church holds about 250 people and serves the year-round community. It's an active parish rather than a heritage attraction, but visitors are welcome outside service times. The setting — the quiet harbour around it, fishing boats tied up nearby, the mountains across the water — makes it worth a look even if you wouldn't normally stop at a modern church.
