Skarsvåg's main draws are geological and celestial. The North Cape plateau is the obvious headline, but the Kirkeporten rock arch gives a quieter, arguably more beautiful perspective on the same cliffs. In winter, the darkness is total for two months and the northern lights are extraordinary. In summer, the midnight sun stays above the horizon from mid-May to late July. A boat trip to haul king crab pots from the Barents Sea is the signature local activity — worth doing even if you have no particular interest in crustaceans.
