Porsgrunds Porselensfabrikk

Porsgrunds Porselensfabrikk is Norway's only remaining porcelain manufacturer, and the factory outlet here is a genuine destination for those interested in Scandinavian design and craft. You can buy slightly irregular or discontinued pieces at significant discounts alongside the current range, and the attached factory museum traces the history of Norwegian porcelain with beautiful examples of the traditional blue-and-white onion pattern and other classic designs.

The factory has been operating continuously since 1885, making it one of the oldest surviving manufacturing operations in Norway. Guided factory tours show the production process from raw clay to finished tableware. Even if you do not purchase anything, the museum section alone is worth an hour.

A story
Porsgrunds Porselensfabrikk was founded in 1885 by Jeremiassen brothers after fine white clay deposits were found in the region. For over a century it was the prestige tableware of Norway — every Norwegian royal event used Porsgrunn porcelain. The factory survived two world wars and multiple industrial crises to remain Norway's only porcelain manufacturer.
