The Lenin statue is the photograph almost everyone takes in Barentsburg. It stands among Soviet-era buildings, with Arctic rock and sea beyond, a scene that feels both theatrical and completely real.
The monument is not large, but its setting does the work. Few political statues have this much latitude.
