Gniezno's old market square is a pleasantly human-scaled space ringed with pastel-painted townhouses and outdoor cafes. It lacks the grand architecture of Poznań's Rynek, but makes up for it with a quieter, more authentic feel — on a summer afternoon, locals genuinely use it rather than tourists photographing it. The square is a good starting point for a walk through the old town and the obvious place to stop for coffee before or after the cathedral.
