Śródmieście (City Centre)

Warsaw's central district — from the Palace of Culture south to Zbawiciela Square, the beating heart of modern city life

Śródmieście (literally "inner city") is the central district of Warsaw that lies south of the Royal Route between the Old Town and Łazienki Park. It contains the Palace of Culture and Science, the main rail and bus stations, the National Museum, Hala Koszyki, and the dense grid of streets around Zbawiciela Square that constitute Warsaw's most concentrated dining and bar scene.

The district was largely rebuilt after the war in modernist style, which gives it a different character from the reconstructed Old Town — functional, somewhat grey, but livened by the energy of a working city. Nowy Świat forms its eastern edge; Mokotowska Street to the west has good independent shops and restaurants.
