A waymarked coastal path runs east from Praia da Luz along the clifftops, over the Rocha Negra and down to Porto de Mós, then on into Lagos — about two and a half hours each way at a steady pace. The route follows the edge of the ochre sandstone cliffs for most of its length, with the sea below and the open scrubland of the headland on the other side.
The path is exposed and there's no shade, so start early in summer. Spring is the best season: the cliffs are covered in wildflowers — sea daisies, cistus, bee orchids — and the air is still cool. A bus runs back from Lagos every half hour or so, which makes a one-way walk practical.
