The lighthouse at Barra, built between 1885 and 1893, stands 62 metres tall — the tallest in the Iberian Peninsula. It guards the narrow channel where the Ria de Aveiro meets the Atlantic, and you can walk the beach from Barra down to Costa Nova to reach it. The striped houses of Costa Nova are visible along the way, another Aveiro landmark worth the short detour.
