Aveiro is well served by rail: Alfa Pendular and Intercidade trains connect it to Porto (about an hour) and Lisbon (about two and a half hours) throughout the day. The station is a five-minute walk from the canal centre and has a fine azulejo panel on its facade worth pausing to look at.
By car, Aveiro is on the A1 motorway between Porto and Lisbon, about 75 kilometres south of Porto. The A17 and A25 provide access from the east and north. Driving into the old town itself is not recommended; there are car parks near the station and on the outskirts.
