Getting There

Beja is connected to Lisbon by a direct train service operated by CP (Comboios de Portugal), with the journey taking around two hours on the intercity service. Services are not particularly frequent — check the CP timetable before travelling. The station is in the lower part of town, a fifteen-minute walk from the old town centre, or a short taxi ride.

Beja can also be reached by bus from Lisbon, Évora, and Faro. The Rede Expressos network covers the main Alentejo routes. By car, Beja is about 190 kilometres from Lisbon on the A2 motorway south, then east; the journey takes under two hours in normal traffic.

There is no airport in Beja serving commercial flights. The nearest airport is Faro (100 kilometres south) or Lisbon (190 kilometres northwest).
