Café A Brasileira

One of the great Portuguese coffee-house institutions, A Brasileira in Braga dates from 1907 and has retained its original wood-panelled interior, marble counter, and unhurried atmosphere. It occupies a corner on Largo do Barão de São Martinho, a short walk from the cathedral, and serves coffee, pastries, and light snacks. The galão (milky coffee served in a tall glass) is a Braga staple — this is a good place to try one.

Not to be confused with the more famous A Brasileira in Lisbon's Chiado, though both share the same Brazilian-coffee-import origins. This one is quieter, less touristy, and an honest picture of a Portuguese café that has not been refurbished into something photogenic.
