Getting There

Braga is connected to Porto by both train and motorway, making it an easy arrival point from the south. The train from Porto's São Bento or Campanhã station takes around an hour and runs frequently throughout the day; the fare is cheap. From Porto airport, the easiest route is to take the metro to Campanhã station and then the train north. There are also direct buses from Porto operated by Rede Expressos.

From Lisbon, the most practical option is a domestic flight to Porto followed by the train to Braga, or a long-distance bus from Lisbon's Sete Rios terminal — a journey of around three and a half hours. There are also direct intercity trains from Lisbon via Porto, though the journey takes over three hours and requires a change.

Braga has no commercial airport of its own. The nearest is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto (OPO), approximately 50 kilometres south. Taxis and rideshares from the airport run around €50–60; the train-metro combination is far cheaper and almost as fast.

By car from Porto, take the A3 motorway north; the journey is about 45 minutes outside rush hour. Braga's centre is heavily pedestrianised and parking can be difficult — leave the car in one of the paid car parks at the edge of the old town.
