The Thermal Spa of Peso (Termas do Peso) is a 19th-century thermal establishment in the parish of Paderne, about 2 km from the town centre of Melgaço. The spa draws on bicarbonate sulphur springs reputed since at least the Roman period, and the Victorian-era bathing facilities have been partially modernised while retaining their period character.
The waters are used for treating respiratory and rheumatic conditions. The spa offers day visitor access as well as longer therapeutic stays. The setting in the Minho valley, surrounded by vineyards and the first slopes of the mountains, is beautiful. A pleasant afternoon stop, particularly in combination with lunch at one of the local restaurants.
