Things to Do

Melgaço is a small town that rewards a slow half-day or a full day. The medieval castle at the centre of town is in good condition, the Alvarinho wine heritage is present in every restaurant and shop, and the unexpected Museum of Cinema is worth seeking out. The town makes a natural base for accessing the northern edge of Peneda-Gerês National Park, Portugal's only national park, whose peaks rise to the south.
