Aguçadoura Beach

Aguçadoura Beach is the longest and wildest of Póvoa's beaches, on the rural northern edge of the municipality. A wide stretch of sand backs onto extensive dunes and the unusual coastal greenhouses that grow vegetables on the sandy soil under polythene.

The surf here is some of the best on the northern Portuguese coast, with consistent waves and far fewer crowds than the town beaches. Early August brings the Aguçadoura Beach Party, the city's biggest summer music event.
