Póvoa de Varzim has one of the livelier nightlife scenes in northern Portugal, concentrated along the Passeio Alegre seafront and the Avenida dos Banhos. Beach bars open from May, with a long string of clubs and outdoor terraces operating through the summer.
For coffee, the old shopping streets of Junqueira and Mousinho de Albuquerque hold a handful of traditional cafés. Several are family operations that have been pouring espressos for more than half a century.
