Rio Alto Beach, also known as Estela Beach, is the most popular naturist beach in northern Portugal. It sits on a wild, wind-swept stretch of Atlantic coast just north of Póvoa de Varzim, near the Estela Golf Course and south of the Aguçadoura surfing beach.
The beach is long, sandy, and backed by dunes rather than development. Facilities are minimal -- no beach bars or sun lounger rentals -- so bring your own supplies. The surf can be strong here; swimming is best on calmer days. The naturist section is informally marked and sits toward the northern end of the beach.
