Sintra's historic centre has a concentration of small shops selling the things the town is known for: queijadas and ginjinhas (sour cherry liqueur), traditional Portuguese handicrafts, ceramics, and fado music. The Rua das Padarias and the streets around the National Palace are the main shopping area. Prices are tourist-market level; the queijadas are the one purchase that is genuinely worth making.
