National Museum of Unification

The National Museum of Unification is housed inside the Alba Carolina Citadel and covers Alba Iulia's history from Dacian times through the Roman, medieval, Ottoman, Habsburg, and Romanian periods. The museum's name refers to the 1918 Great National Assembly held in this city, at which Transylvania voted to unite with Romania — one of the defining moments of modern Romanian history.

The collection is substantial and well-organised, with a particularly strong section on the Roman period (Apulum was one of the most important Roman cities in Dacia), and another on the events of 1918. The displays are labelled in Romanian and English, and the building itself — a former officers' barracks inside the citadel — is worth examining for its 18th-century architecture.
