Hotel Coroana de Aur Restaurant

Restaurant of the Golden Crown hotel — the Dracula tie-in done plainly

Address Strada Petru Rareș 4, Bistrița

The Coroana de Aur is Bistrița's literary tourist trap, and on its own terms a perfectly decent one. Built in the 1970s on the supposed site of the inn Bram Stoker invented for the opening of Dracula, the hotel restaurant serves Romanian classics and the Stoker-menu trio of robber steak, mămăligă with cheese, and paprika hendl. Prices are reasonable and the dining room is unfussy.

A story
Bram Stoker named the inn where Jonathan Harker eats his last 'civilised' dinner the Golden Krone; today's Hotel Coroana de Aur was built on the supposed site in 1974 and is the town's main Dracula draw. The restaurant serves Stoker's own fictional menu — robber steak, mămăligă, paprika hendl — to visitors who want the joke.
