Entry of the Theotokos Orthodox Church

Former Greek Catholic church just east of the old town

Built in the late 19th century in a mixed Byzantine-Romanian style, this church served the Greek Catholic community of Bistrița until the rite was banned under communism in 1948 and the building was handed to the Orthodox church. It returned to its current role as an Orthodox parish church after 1989.

Worth the short walk east of the main square for the painted interior and to see how the Romanian Orthodox tradition sits alongside the older Saxon Lutheran one in the same town.
