Beach Clubs and Nightlife

Mamaia's reputation as a party destination rests on the cluster of large outdoor clubs and beach bars that operate from June to September along the northern end of the resort. International DJs play here through the summer, and the scene draws young Romanians from Bucharest and beyond. Venues vary in price and style — some are genuinely expensive by Romanian standards, others are casual beach bars with cheap beer and local music.

The action starts late — midnight is not an unusual time to arrive at a club. The lakeside has a more relaxed bar scene for those who prefer their summer evenings without thumping bass. Romanian beer (particularly Ursus and Timișoreana) is good and cheap; the local fruit wine is acceptable; stick to bottled water at the beach shacks.
