Mamaia Cable Car (Telegondola)

The Mamaia telegondola runs above the resort from one end to the other, giving a bird's-eye view of the beach on one side and the lake on the other. The ride takes about 20 minutes end-to-end and is genuinely useful for getting the measure of the place if you have just arrived. Gondolas depart from stations near the main promenade.

It operates from late spring to early autumn, weather permitting. Tickets are inexpensive by Western standards. The views are best in the late afternoon, when the light on the water turns golden.

A story
The telegondola was built during the Communist period as a tourist attraction — an unusual addition to a beach resort. It remains one of the few working cable cars along the entire Romanian coast, and is a practical way to see the full extent of the resort from the air.
