Dacian Fortress of Jigodin

The Dacian Fortress of Jigodin sits on a wooded ridge a few kilometres south of central Miercurea Ciuc and represents one of the easternmost Dacian fortified settlements known. The ruins are modest — earthen ramparts and stone foundations rather than standing walls — but the setting and the historical context are worth the short walk for anyone interested in pre-Roman Carpathian archaeology.

Excavations have revealed pottery, weapons, and traces of metalworking dating to the 2nd century BCE. There is a single information panel at the site and no formal access controls; bring sturdy shoes for the steep approach path through the forest. About an hour return.
