Clăbucet Ski Area

Clăbucet is Predeal's main ski area, sitting between 1,100 and 1,445 metres on the slopes above the town. The main run — a red-graded intermediate slope — is 2,100 metres long with a vertical drop of around 390 metres, and there are a couple of shorter blue and black variants. Snowmaking covers most of the terrain, and night skiing is possible on the lit sections. For beginners there is a ski school and rental shop at the base.

In summer the chairlift continues to operate, carrying hikers and mountain bikers up to trails that connect with the Bucegi and Piatra Mare massifs. The views from the top over the Prahova Valley and the town below are worth the ride alone.

A story
Predeal's ski area takes its name from Mount Clăbucet, a name that crops up repeatedly across the Carpathians — it means something like "rounded summit" in Romanian, though the Predeal version is better known than most thanks to the chairlift that has been running here since the communist era.
