Tulcea Art Museum

Romanian art collection in a 19th-century mansion

The Tulcea Art Museum occupies a stately 19th-century townhouse on Grigore Antipa Street, with a small but well-curated permanent collection of Romanian painting and sculpture from the 19th century to the present. Highlights include works by Theodor Pallady, Ștefan Luchian and Nicolae Tonitza — major names in Romanian modernism — alongside local Dobrujan artists.

The building itself is part of the appeal: ornate plaster ceilings, parquet floors and wooden staircases recently restored. Temporary exhibitions and chamber concerts are held in the ground-floor halls. It is a quiet, civilised contrast to the wetland-themed museums and a good rainy-afternoon option.
