Demidov Square is the most coherent piece of old Barnaul. The classical mining school, hospital buildings, and Demidov Column frame the story of a city that grew rich on Altai ore and became one of imperial Russia's silver-processing centres.
It is not grand in the St Petersburg sense, but the square has real local weight. Walk it together with nearby Polzunova Street and the Mountain Pharmacy.
